Report: 25-Year Old Mikal Bridges Agrees To $90M Extension With Suns

The Phoenix Suns and Mikal Bridges have agreed to a rookie scale contract extension worth $90 million over four years.

The 25-year-old has shown to be one of the league’s best young perimeter defenders while developing a dependable outside shot, NBA.com reports. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 1.1 steals, 0.9 blocks, and 42.5% shooting from 3-point range last season.

In Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Bridges scored 27 points in the Suns’ last win before falling 4-2 to the Bucks.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the extension begins in the 2022-23 season. Bridges — the 10th overall pick of the 2018 Draft — would have entered restricted free agency next summer had he not agreed to an extension by Oct. 18.

Bridges joins Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Cameron Payne, while Phoenix is still negotiating a long-term extension with fellow 2018 draftee Deandre Ayton, RealGM reports. The former first overall pick is rumored to be seeking a max contract of $172.5 million over five years. The deadline to sign rookie scale extensions is Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. ET.
