Prince Philip, Husband of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain, Dies At Age 99

Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain, has died at Windsor Castle at the age of 99. The Royal Family released a statement on Friday via Twitter announcing the news of Philip's unfortunate passing.

"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," the tweet read. "His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

Back on Feb. 16, Prince Philip was admitted to the hospital and later underwent a procedure for a pre-existing heart condition. Then on March 16, he was released to go home to Windsor Castle, where he was staying during England's COVID-19 lockdown.

Prince Philip had been married to Queen Elizabeth since 1947, almost 75 years. After over seven decades of public support for the Queen, he retired from his official royal duties back in 2017 with the "full support" of his wife, according to Buckingham Palace.
