The top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide are on their bye week, and the Ohio State Buckeyes are looking to rebound from their first loss to stay in the mix to make the College Football Playoff field. How will the Buckeyes respond on Saturday at home against the Northwestern Wildcats? And how will other top teams fare as they try to take advantage of Ohio State's setback? Here are this week's college football betting picks:
Michigan (-23.5) at Michigan State (Sat, 12 p.m. ET) Matchup Report
The Wolverines (7-0) are the team that benefited the most from that loss by the Buckeyes, rising to No. 2 in the national rankings. Michigan visits Ohio State on November 26, and that game will likely determine the Big Ten East winner. Until then, neither can stumble, and the Wolverines have done just that recently against the Spartans (2-5), going 1-7 straight up and 0-8 against the spread in the past eight meetings. But this is a different Michigan State team, so look for Michigan to roll its intrastate rival.
Northwestern at Ohio State (-27) (Sat, 3:30 p.m. ET)“ Matchup Report
The Buckeyes (6-1) cannot afford another mediocre performance the rest of the way if they are going to make college football's version of the Final Four, so look for them to bounce back in this spot. They are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games after losing as favorites and have covered five straight meetings with the Wildcats (4-3) en route to winning 10 of the last 11 in the series. Northwestern's three-game winning streak will end here in a rout.
Clemson (-4.5) at Florida State (Sat, 8 p.m. ET) Matchup Report
The Tigers (7-0) have lost in nine of their previous 10 trips to Tallahassee, but they have also won eight straight road games overall. Something has to give between these two ACC rivals, and the Seminoles (5-2) will be fired up at home for their biggest game of the year. Clemson may be able to squeak out another win, but Florida State will keep it close and cover the spread.
Now here are the NFL picks.
Much like the stock market, certain teams are trending up while others are trending down with the halfway point of the NFL season nearly upon us. There are three underdogs in Week 8 that are not getting enough respect from oddsmakers and should win straight up, so here are the NFL betting picks:
Chiefs (-2.5) at Colts (Sun, 1 p.m. ET) Matchup Report
Indianapolis (3-4) is a coming off a nice 34-26 road win against the Tennessee Titans last Sunday in a game many assumed they would lose as a 3.5-point underdog. But the Colts are still one of the best teams in the AFC South, and the Houston Texans are not running away with the division title. Kansas City is just 2-13 SU and 3-12 against the spread in the past 15 meetings, so take Indy here.
Raiders at Buccaneers (-1.5) (Sun, 1 p.m. ET) Matchup Report
Oakland (5-2) will be playing in the state of Florida for the second week in a row after routing the Jacksonville Jaguars 33-16 as a two-point underdog. But can the Raiders do it again at Tampa Bay? The Raiders have covered the spread in their last seven road games – going 4-0 SU this season – and the Buccaneers are just 2-7 SU in their last nine after winning as dogs the previous week. Look for Jack Del Rio's bunch to stay hot with another road victory.
Packers at Falcons (-3) (Sun, at 4:25 p.m. ET)“ Matchup Report
Atlanta (4-3) started last season 5-0 before the wheels came off, as the team lost seven of eight and failed to cover nine in a row at one point en route to a disappointing 8-8 mark. This year, the Falcons have vowed not to duplicate that dubious feat, but things have already started to take a turn for the worse. Meanwhile, a hungry 4-2 Green Bay team visits the Georgia Dome going for its third straight win there and fifth overall in the series. Atlanta is somehow favored despite going 0-10 ATS over its last 10 in that role. Back the Pack.
