New Bachelor Matt James Is A Former Wake Forest Football Player

Matt James, a former Wake Forest wide receiver, is the new Bachelor, according to ABC who made the announcement this morning. James, originally cast as a Bachelorette contestant, will become the first black Bachelor in show history which started in 2002. James was a three-star recruit out of high school who played at Wake from 2011-14, had 40 catches and 401 yards in his senior season. After college he earned tryouts with the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints.

James, 28, said on Good Morning America that his first reaction was, "Does this mean I don’t get to meet Clare?" As for becoming the first black Bachelor in show history, James said it's an honor. "Hopefully when people invite me into their homes on Monday night they’re going to see I’m not much different than them," he added.
