Naturally the Astros, Joe Kelly Were Involved in First MLB Incident of Covid-delayed Season

Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly and Astros star Carlos Correa got into a dustup Tuesday night after Kelly threw at the head of Alex Bregman and then missed Correa by inches with a fastball. Kelly strutted off the mound after striking out Correa, his tongue stuck out, giving the pouty lip and screaming “Shut the f*** up.” 

Kelly apparently violated one of the countless unwritten rules because Correa took further exception.

COVID protocols and the absence of fans couldn’t stop Joe Kelly from getting a lick in — and he didn’t have to hurt a soul.

Give the 'incident' a watch.

Some context: everyone hate the Astros for being cheaters. Everyone including the Dodgers. The Dodgers were one of the more vocal teams about the cheating scandal.

This past February, Correa fired back comments at Dodgers’ MVP Cody Bellinger that “if he didn’t know what he was talking about, he needs to shut the fuck up.” Correa not only came off like a bozo, but reserved a dance with 100-mile-an-hour fastballs for his teammates.

Commissioner Rob Manfred clearly thought he was a genius at the time when he hilariously attempted to get out front of the mayhem. “I hope that I made it extremely clear to them that retaliation in-game by throwing at a batter intentionally will not be tolerated, whether it’s Houston or anybody else.” 

What a waste of breath.

Kelly used his reputation for being wild as a hall pass to scare the devil out players who were flapping their gums all offseason. Manfred forgets the players in this league don’t rely on him to govern the game on the field. They rely on themselves.

Kelly didn’t hit a single Astro, but sent a message to Manfred (who’s nothing more than a lawyer for MLB owners) and the Houston Astros that threats of a suspension won’t protect them after whipping the integrity of the game between their butt cheeks. 

The Dodgers play Houston again tonight at 7:10pm. Game on.
