Michael Jordan Reeled In 25lb Dolphin

It’s not often a goat catches a dolphin. But that’s exactly what happened when Michael Jordan and his “Catch 23” fishing team reeled in a dolphin on the first day of the 63rd annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament. MJ and his eight teammates are amongst 270 crews competing in the fishing tournament, which runs across North Carolina's Crystal Coast. Big Rock Blue has a $3.4 million purse – pocket change for His Airness, who has a net worth of 1.5 billion.

Per Business Insider, after snagging the 25 lb dolphin, Jordan and crew landed on the tournament’s Day 1 leaderboard. Should Crew 23 stay atop the leaderboard in the dolphin category, they’ll receive a $529,000 payout.

Predictably, Jordan's 80-foot yacht drew plenty of attention in his native North Carolina.

According to SuperFanYacht.com, Jordan's yacht has a price tag of around $8 million and has room for eight guests and two crew members. In the unlikely event that Jordan didn't have an extra $8 million laying around, the yacht can be paid off (without interest) in 15 years, assuming the first place prize money in the dolphin category stays the same.

It's doubtful that the ultra-competitive Jordan is satisfied with the Day One dolphin. Last summer, Jordan and Crew 23 snagged a 442 lb blue marlin in their first appearance at Big Rock Blue. After the catch, Jordan told Big Rock TV: "I’d love to be back with a little bit bigger fish." He'll have until Sunday to reel in a bigger catch, that's when this year's tournament concludes.
