Josh Heupel Updates The Status Of Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker

After all the craziness that went down in the final minutes of the game between Ole Miss and Tennessee on Saturday, the health of starting quarterback Hendon Hooker was on the minds of Tennessee fans. It looked as though the Vols would be dealing with a significant injury to the quarterback, who went down on the team's final possession.

However, on Monday Vols head coach Josh Heupel said he is optimistic that it isn't a "long-term injury," adding that Hooker would be day to day. This should come as a great sign, as the situation did not look good on Saturday night.

You could hear the gasps from Vols fans on the first play of Tennessee's final possession of the game, when Hooker's leg buckled underneath him as he was tackled from behind while scrambling down the field for a 15-yard gain. After the play, Hooker got up and was looking to head towards the next play, but then went down and trainers rushed onto the field.

The starting quarterback looked to be in serious pain, and he didn't put any weight on his right leg. He was examined on the sidelines and was then taken off the field after the game, with the help of the training staff.

But the positive news is that it doesn't seem to be as serious as most thought when looking at it. In other injury news, Josh Heupel said Tiyon Evans and Cade Mays would be day to day, as the team begins preparing for their game against Alabama.

The Vols are beat up at a lot of different spots right now, so they desperately need a bye week to heal up. That will come after the trip to Tuscaloosa.
