Georgia QB JT Daniels Reportedly Expected To Enter Transfer Portal
The 2021 season turned out to be a roller coaster for Georgia quarterback JT Daniels, and it has now carried over into 2022. According to a report from DawgNation, Daniels is expected to enter the transfer portal and leave Georgia, though the report does indicate that JT could remain at Georgia for the spring.
The kerfuffle at the quarterback position started in fall camp, when Daniels was injured during a scrimmage. He suffered an 'upper body' injury, which happened inadvertently and set him back a while. The injury brought on many worries inside the program, especially leading up to the season opener against Clemson.
Daniels actually played against the Tigers but was replaced by Stetson Bennett in the second game, against UAB. Daniels fought through the injury and returned for the South Carolina game, leading the Bulldogs to the win. But in the fourth game of the season against Vanderbilt, the tone changed.
After starting the game, Daniels was pulled in the second half due to the continued problems from his injury, and Kirby Smart gave Stetson Bennett the ball. Bennett took the reins and never let go and ultimately led Georgia to a National Championship. Now, it looks as though the Bulldogs will be going through a bit of transition in the quarterback room again.
"Well Stetson's a good football player," Smart said after the Michigan game. "JT is, too. We've got two really good quarterbacks, and I think the country should know that. Stetson's made some really good plays with his feet. He's kept things alive. He's a good quarterback, but so is JT. We're very fortunate to have both of them."
The Bulldogs may get Stetson Bennett back, though that decision has not been made yet. The QB room also has Brock Vandergriff, Carson Beck, and Gunner Stockton, so there are plenty of options available for Kirby Smart.
But Daniels didn't see any playing time during the SEC Championship or the Bulldogs' Playoff run, so the writing was slowly being written on the wall. The transfer quarterback will have plenty of options for the future, but it just wasn't meant to be in Athens.
We will wait for him to officially enter the portal, but it sounds as though Daniels is moving on from the National Champions.
