Adjust Your Fantasy Draft Accordingly: Bears To Get Montgomery 20 Touches A Game
You should probably start prepping for the big day. I know you'll be nervous. That's normal. You're about to make a life-changing decision... That's why you should strongly consider hitching your wagon to Bears running back David Montgomery when your fantasy league drafts. After all, head coach Matt Nagy is planning for Montgomery to tote the rock 20 times per game.
"Depending on what the game is, what's happened the last couple years and why some of David's carries -- which aren't low -- haven't been quite as high is a lot of guys get it in to four-minute mode in the fourth quarter," said Nagy, per SI.com. "That's where they can get those extra four or five carries, which can bump them into the top five, you know, with 20 rushes a game. That's our goal."
Montgomery should be able to shoulder the load, his 16.5 carries per game last season were the third most among running backs. In addition to his 247 carries, the Iowa State product caught 54 balls and scored 10 total touchdowns. From the outside looking in, Nagy and Montgomery seem like the perfect marriage: "We want to have the lead so that we can give him the ball, so he has touches. Because you know from just seeing him run the football, that guy in four-minute mode it takes more than one guy to bring him down. He's one of my favorite players on the team."
Though they've already spent two seasons together, Nagy gives off the vibe that they're still in the honeymoon phase, telling SI.com : "I love his work ethic. He cares so much. He's, I guarantee you every single day, he's out here working. He wants to have a great year. He's motivated."
Don't get left standing at the altar, select David Montgomery. And remember, you don't draft the person you can live with—you draft the person you can't live without.
